First science experiment for the week -

DISSOLVING SOLIDS IN WATER

This week we have been looking at whether hot water dissolves solid faster than cold water and vice versa. We have used baking soda, icing sugar, milo powder, and salt. The students saw some sort of reaction with the baking soda. Also that icing sugar has sunk into the bottom of the cup which became solid.

AS A SPECIAL TREAT WE MADE ICE BLOCKS BECAUSE IT WAS REALLY HOT!!!

LAVA LAMPS

TUMANAKO 12 HAVE MADE LAVA LAMPS ON FRIDAY!! SUPER AWESOME!

As a class we have discuss whether liquid and liquid mix well together. In this instance we have used oil and water. Some students thought the two liquid mixes well and some didn't.

Using two magnets to explain why oil and water don't mix well have made them understood why there is a separation between the two.

Each group created their own lava lamp and they were super stoked with the results and the students got to observe and watch how the chemical reacted in the jar!!
